An app that turns a song you love into a digital record with a cover you design yourself, which you can leave at a place in Istanbul. The record waits there in a hidden sleeve; whoever gets there opens it, reads the note on the back and listens to the song in their own music app.

iPhone only, for now. Because you sign in with Apple, you need to be signed in to your Apple Account on your iPhone.

Plak doesn’t keep passwords; your account is tied to Sign in with Apple. The first time you sign in, Apple also offers to hide your email address. If you choose that, we only ever see the relay address Apple gives us.

In the studio, type the song’s name and search, or paste a song link you copied from Spotify or Apple Music. You can also send it from your music app: open the Share menu and pick “Plak’a ekle”.

Plak doesn’t play the song; whoever opens the record listens to it in their own Spotify or Apple Music app.

At the places on the map that our team has checked in person. You need to be near the place to drop it; if you’re too far, the app tells you how far away you are.

No. A record is sealed the moment it’s dropped, so everyone who opens it sees the same record. Until you drop it, it stays on your phone as a draft you can edit as much as you like.

Up to 5 a day. We set this limit so the sleeves around the city stay special.

Every place has an opening circle, which you can see on the map. Take a few steps towards the middle of the circle and try again. Between buildings or indoors, GPS can be off by a few tens of metres.

If your location isn’t accurate enough, the record won’t open. Try this:

• Step outside and wait a few seconds.
• Make sure “Precise Location” is on in iPhone Settings → Plak → Location.
• Keep Wi-Fi on; even when it isn’t connected, it helps location accuracy.

Go to iPhone Settings → Plak → Location and choose “While Using the App”. Plak only uses your location while the app is open; it never tracks you in the background and doesn’t store your location.

To prevent abuse, at most 20 records can be opened in 10 minutes. If you seem to have moved between two places at an unrealistic speed, opening is also refused for a short while. Wait a little and try again.

1. Touch and hold an empty spot on your Home Screen.
2. Tap Edit in the top left, then Add Widget.
3. Search for Plak, pick a size and tap Add Widget.
4. For the Lock Screen, touch and hold the Lock Screen, tap Customise and choose the widget area.

Choose which record spins and its background in the app under Settings → Edit Widget.

That’s on purpose. The song’s name stays hidden until your phone is unlocked.

In the app, go to Notifications → Notification settings to choose separately for follows, your record being opened, new records from people you follow, new records nearby and comments. No notifications are sent during quiet hours at night (22:00–09:00 by default); anything you miss waits in Notifications in the app.

In iPhone Settings → Apple Account → Subscriptions → Plak, or in the app under Settings → Manage subscription. If you cancel, Special Pressing stays on until the end of the period you’ve paid for.

Make sure you’re signed in with the same Apple Account, then tap Settings → Restore purchases.

Apple takes the payments, so Apple also handles refunds. You can request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

No. Cancel your subscription separately in the App Store before deleting your account.

Yes. When you sign in with the same Apple Account, your records, your shelf and your page come back. Only drafts that weren’t saved stay on the old phone.

From the ••• menu on a record, a page or a post. The records, page and posts of someone you block are hidden from you and they can’t send you notifications; they aren’t told. You can remove blocks in Settings → Blocked.

Our team reviews reports. If three different people report the same content, it’s hidden straight away until the review is done.

Settings → Account → Delete account. Apple asks you once more to confirm. Your account, your records and their photos, your posts, comments and page are deleted; this can’t be undone. What is kept and for how long is explained in the privacy policy.

Accounts found to break the community rules can be suspended. If you think it’s a mistake, write to us with your username and we’ll look at the decision again.
